About Reni

Reni Soares is a San Diego-based painter originally from Cape Verde Islands, a small vibrant country off the west coast of Africa. Working primarily with acrylics, she creates both abstract and figurative paintings that are rich in color, emotion, and narrative. Her abstract works are inspired by nature, often featuring fluid, dreamscape compositions that reflect a deep sense of tranquility and harmony. Her figurative work focuses on women and draws from personal experiences and identity, offering an intimate look into themes of resilience and reflection. At the heart of her practice is a desire to find balance between movement and stillness, form and freedom, inner and outer worlds.

My work explores the ongoing search for balance, something I navigate daily in both my personal life and my art. Born and raised in Cape Verde, I carry with me a deep connection to nature, rhythm, and vibrant color. These elements are at the core of my practice, guiding both the visual language and emotional tone of my work. My abstract paintings are inspired by the natural world and aim to evoke moments of deep connection and serenity. Through flowing forms and layered textures, I try to recreate that sense of stillness and harmony—spaces that feel open, intuitive, and at peace.

In contrast, my figurative work is centered on women and reflects my experiences and evolving identity. These pieces are grounded, emotional, and often tell stories of strength, transformation, and duality. Whether abstract or figurative, my work is ultimately about connection, the tension and harmony between opposites, and the invisible threads that tie memory, place, identity, and emotion together.
